There is a difference between the name “Christ” and the Name of Christ. Consider “Name” in the Hebrew sense. It’s not just a label. It’s a person’s nature, character, office, function, mission, calling, among other things. When we covenant that we are “willing to take upon us the Name of Thy Son”, that’s more than just accepting Christianity. When you receive the baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost, and even more particularly, when you stand in the Presence of Christ, He places His Name upon you. There is an actual ordinance.
When you are a witness of the Name of Christ, you are a witness not only of the Man from Nazareth, you are a living witness of the character, nature, and attributes of Christ.
Even in D&C 112:26. “First among those among you, saith the Lord, who have professed to know my name and have not known me, and have blasphemed against me in the midst of my house, saith the Lord.” If you don’t know Christ, you can’t be a witness of His Name.
To the Twelve in America: 3 Nephi 27:27 “And know ye that ye shall be judges of this people, according to the judgment which I shall give unto you, which shall be just. Therefore, what manner of men ought ye to be? Verily I say unto you, even as I am.”
