  1. Really enjoyed this week’s podcast. The links are to all those passages are really amazing.

I went and listened to Taylor’s appearance on Mormonism Live. I think he did a great job. I found it interesting how his answers were all based on the scriptures and the hosts were getting a little frustrated with him doing that. Their comments “be brief” or “just answer yes or no” were tells. I get they have thrown out just about everything and aren’t very receptive to this message. Another thing that I think Mormons and ex-Mormons have is a distorted view of a prophet. Because of all the prophet worship, they view them as super, holy people, on a different level than everyone else. So I see some of their challenges when they learn about Joseph’s foibles as a youth and things the Smith family may have been involved in. The truth is that God has always selected from us flawed humans people to be his servants. There’s nothing extraordinary or special about those who he calls – in the sense that they are holy, perfect, etc. It’s the Biblical illiteracy of Mormons that causes so much confusion. Take Ezekiel, for example. The guy ran around naked for a while, did all sorts of apparently bizarre things. If the people had this distorted Mormon view of a prophet, they’d have rejected Ezekiel. You can find all sorts of these flawed, mortal men who God calls and uses for His purposes. If we shed our indoctrination and see through what God actually does, Joseph shouldn’t strike us as in any way disqualified by God to do His work. In fact, Joseph seems like just the sort God has used over and over again to deliver His message.
